trader joe’s pizza dough

by Amy on 10 December 2010

i love making homemade pizza, but sometimes am just not in the mood to make the dough.  until recently, i hadn’t found a premade dough that i liked, but then i stumbled across trader joe’s version (for a mere 99 cents) + decided to give it a try.

we got the dough home + let it sit out for about thirty minutes. meanwhile, we guessed that the dough would make three medium-sized pizzas, so we decided on the types – a four cheese white pizza, a traditional pepperoni/mozzarella, + a spicy sausage/caramelized onion version. by the time i finished sautéing the onions + sausage, the oven was heated (to 425 degrees), so we prepped the pizzas + popped them in the oven. after about 10-15 minutes, the cheese was browned + bubbly + they were ready for noshing.

the verdict? this pizza dough is really excellent! while i still don’t think anything beats homemade dough, this is a great, inexpensive substitute for those days when you want to save a bit of time.

I was literally just telling someone about tj’s pizza dough yesterday! I love it but I’ve also never made homemade dough (*gasp!*). How on earth did you get 3 pizzas out of it? I usually just make one! Does sitting it out make it rise??

you should try homemade dough – it’s easy + so customizable. i guess the dough must rise when it sits out because we got three pretty big pizzas out of it! i squeezed two on to one baking sheet + let the third have a baking sheet of its own. also, i made the crust pretty thin because i prefer it that way, so that might’ve helped the dough stretch further, too. have you ever tried the tj’s whole wheat dough? that’s still on my to-try list. =)
